On Tuesday 19th November our Year 12 Netball team headed to St Fanchea’s College for their annual Blitz. There were 4 schools in attendance this year – St Fanchea’s College, Erne Integrated College, St Kevin’s College and ourselves.
Each school played each other in a Round Robin tournament with games lasting 20 minutes. The victor emerged as the team with the most points accrued by the end of the Tournament.
Our first match was against St Fanchea’s. It was a close match, with St Fanchea’s taking the lead in the first half only for Ellie Hicks and Alyssa McIntosh to reduce the gap with some excellent shooting. Unfortunately, we were not able to defeat the hosts, resulting in a 10-7 score line.
The next match was against St Kevin’s. This was almost a reversal of the previous match. Our team were dominant in the first half allowing us to play around a little with positions. Excellent defensive work from Edeline Andrich and Scarlett Keys enabled us to prevent many scores in the first half from our opposition. With Sarah Irvine and Zoe Neill strong in the centre court, we came away with a good win, 12-6.
Our third match was against Erne Integrated. This was a side to be reckoned with as they were the overall winners last year. A quick fire start from Erne had us rattled. Instead of getting disheartened, the team lifted themselves up and narrowed the score to 2 points. Despite very strong play from Alex Carson, Zoe Neill and Sarah Irvine in getting the ball into the shooting circle, the shots just weren’t on target. This allowed Erne to pull ahead from the few times they got the ball into their circle. Final score – 10-6 to Erne Integrated.
Well done to all the girls in their final Fermanagh Blitz.
