As part of their AS Geography course, our Yr13 Geography pupils headed to the Magilligan Field Centre this November to engage in a number of fieldwork experiences and develop their geographical investigation skills in preparation for the examinations later this year.
During an intensive 3 day experience the pupils were required to complete a study of service provision and establish a ‘sphere of influence’ for the town Coleraine, investigate ‘ecological succession’ within the psammosere environment of Umbra Dunes and measure the downstream changes to the fluvial characteristics of the Curly Burn river as it drains from Binevenagh Mountain in County Londonderry.
Although exhausting, the 3 days were well worth the trip north and the work completed will definitely of great value for the exams this May. Well done to all involved and a huge thank you to Michael, Natalie and Colin at Magilligan Field Centre for their warm welcome, hospitality and delivery of learning.
