On Saturday 6th May, almost 60 family and friends of Amanda McManus, gathered on a misty morning to begin the ‘4 Peaks for Amanda’ challenge, which was established last year in memory of our much missed and loved colleague and friend.
Braving the peaks of Cuilcagh, Benaughlin, Trien and Belmore, the hikers experienced all Four Seasons in one day, but were not deterred by rain, wind and hail. Spirits were boosted when a rainbow burst through the clouds, which was even more poignant as a symbol of hope we have come to associate with Amanda. Waiting at the bottom of each peak were a team of staff with a welcome cuppa and chocolate to energise the hikers before they tackled the next peak.
Some 12 hours later the evening finished in Boho Community Hall, with a fabulous spread, as climbers were joined by family and friends, to celebrate their achievement and toast our beloved Amanda. There was a wonderful buzz of chat and craic, as we laughed and shed a few tears remembering Amanda’s love and kindness which lives on in our hearts and memories.
The 4 Peaks for Amanda provides us all with a chance to connect with the beautiful vistas of Fermanagh, but also with each other. Last year we raised money for charities close to Amanda’s heart, whilst this year The Air Ambulance was nominated as the chosen charity if people wished to donate. Miss Armstrong and members of the School Council were delighted to present a cheque for £850 to The Air Ambulance to support the vital emergency services it provides, which has been particularly valued by the school community. We would like to thank the Sinead Johnston and her team of leaders, and everyone for their support, showing once again in Amanda’s own words ‘anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you’ .
