The final leg of our ‘Better Together’ journey took us to Dublin to continue our exploration of past, present and future in the context of ‘Identity’. Firstly, we visited the historic General Post Office (GPO), in Dublin City Centre where the pupils received a guided tour. After lunch, we visited the Irish Emigration Museum (also known as EPIC which aptly is an acronym for, Every Person is Connected). Situated on the banks of the river Liffey, EPIC is the world’s only fully digital museum and pupils got the opportunity to not only explore the reasons why millions of people left Ireland but to look at the impact they made around the world. As we look to the future, we hope that the Better Together programme with its emphasis on empathy, teamwork and cultural understanding, will help inspire these creative young people to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. Thank you to Ballinamore Community School pupils and to their TY coordinator teacher Eamon Geoghegan for being a pleasure to work with and thanks again to the Better Together Programme and Project Manager Michael Mullin for making it all possible.
