Twenty years ago, RTE Prime Time visited Enniskillen to interview young people from the community about the Good Friday Agreement and their perceptions of its likely impact on the future of Northern Ireland. Last week they were back to see how true those predictions were and once again spent some time with a selection of 6th form pupils form Enniskillen Royal, St Michael’s and Mount Lourdes.
The afternoon, hosted by Enniskillen Castle Museum, provided an opportunity for the ERGS/St Michael’s Peace Studies group to, once again, showcase their research from the current year, followed by viewing the footage of their predecessors from 1998 and engage in a filmed question and answer session with Prime Time host Miriam O’Callaghan.
The conversation certainly didn’t mirror the heated debate of 1998, but did allow the pupils to reflect of the impact of the Good Friday Agreement on the Northern Ireland they know today, as well as voice their impressively informed opinions and frustrations on the current political situation in Stormont.
