The U13 boys were on the road for the third week in a row and were to face an Armagh side who had gone through last season unbeaten and until Saturday unbeaten this season also. The boys kicked off the game and started as they meant to go on with Harvey Little leading the charge and putting the Armagh winger under pressure straight away. Some frantic passing from the Armagh backs allowed Alex Howe to react quickest to a loose ball to score under the posts within the first minute. The second Try of the game came just as quickly as the first with Alex Howe collecting the ball from the re-start and running from within his own 22 he outstripped the Armagh back line to score under the posts. Tadgh Hambly easily slotted home the conversion. 12 – 0 advantage to ERGS after just 3 minutes. On the 6th Minute ERGS extended their lead when Tadgh Hambly converted a Penalty to make it 15-0. From the re-start Armagh regrouped and excerpted constant pressure for about 15 minutes which saw some dogged and determined defensive tackles from Jake Woods, Charles Patton, Harry Parkinson and Isaac Johnston. The pressure was relieved on numerous occasions by accurate kicks into space by Hambly, however Armagh quickly gathered the ball and showed evidence of why they have been on such a good run of form. Our back row of Louis Burns, James Morrison and Matthew Conlon showed their mobility and tackled with precision thwarting the Armagh danger. The half time whistle was welcomed and the ERGS team could get a well-earned breather.
The second half started brightly for our boys with James Morrison, Noah Quigley and Harvey Little showing strength and pace, making good ground before off-loading to Alex Howe who outpaced the Armagh defensive line to score his third Try of the game (20-0). ERGS made a couple of changes to the back row with Badin Johnston and Daniel Balfour replacing the impressive Burns and Conlon. Both boys slotted in seamlessly. Like in the first half ERGS scored straight from the kick off. The ball was caught by Daniel Balfour who made good ground before being tackled and presenting quick ball for the supporting Enda Love. Cameron Smith smartly moved the ball to the illusive Tadgh Hambly who started a fine display of free flowing open rugby, the move was superbly finished off by Jake Woods. Hambly coolly slotted over the conversion to make the score 27 points to nil in favour of the Fermanagh side. Midway through the second half our rock solid front row of Enda Love, Will Kennedy and Amos Johnston ensured a very steady scrum presented another attacking opportunity. Cameron Smith’s swift and accurate pass started another fantastic display of quick handling and open running resulting in a 4th Try for Howe. Tadgh Hambly again converted with ease (34-0). It wasn’t long before Howe was on the score sheet again scoring his 5th of the game, which was converted by Hambly to make it 41-0. With Armagh not wanting to leave their home turf without scoring they themselves deployed more direct running with their prop making good ground, however their endeavour was to be short lived when Charles Patton made a fantastic try saving tackle which allowed the versatile Louie Burns to steal the ball, and burst forward dispatchng a perfectly weighted pop pass to the rushing Harvey Little who scored under the posts. Tadgh Hambly finished the scoring with another well executed conversion. Final Score 48-0.
