On Saturday 16th March the Enniskillen Royal Show jumpers were once again in action – we entered a Team and an Individual in the 1m event at The Meadows. The team event was one of the 5 events where the winning team can qualify for the Balmoral show schools Showjumping competition in May.
The team had a fabulous day despite the threat of sleet and snow. First into the arena was Natalie Somerville ( Year 12) on ISHD Convoy. She had a super round, looking very comfortable. She left the arena with a double clear and a strong time. Next was the youngest team member, Patrick Williams (Year 9) on Coill Dearmad William. A steady ride on the wilful William led to a 2nd double clear and a good time. Along came Sophia Williams ( Year 10) on Clonlee Red River. A cool head was needed, knowing that only a double clear would leave any chance at qualifying – she didn’t disappoint. A 3rd double clear with another strong time. This left the last of the team to come in – Adrianna Hurst (Year 12) on Cheeky Blonde. Safe in the knowledge that the three previous riders had gone clear, Adrianna could try to push for a fast time as well as a double clear. She did this in great style on a horse that is still very new to her.
In the team competition the three fastest time are added together for the overall score. By the end of the competition, we knew we’d done well, but not how well. We were delighted to hear that we had come 4th overall. Not enough to win a coveted place at Balmoral, but a fantastic achievement for the team, and lovely green St Patrick’s day Rosettes!
The team will have one more attempt at gaining the 5th place for Balmoral, at the Drumragh show on 1st April. We wish them all the best for this.
Our 5th rider entered as an Individual in her first 1m competition. Tiana-Grace Abbott ( Year 10) looked so calm and collected as she took on the course. She had a wonderful ride – yet again, a double clear, clocking an excellent time too.
Huge congratulations to all 5 riders – they should be very proud of themselves and their achievements.
