Two teams of junior girls rugby players headed up to the MUSA Cookstown on 12th March. Inspired from watching the senior girls win their Ulster title the day before both teams were psyched up for what ever came their way. This also included the weather which seemed to deteriorate the closer to Cookstown the bus got; but not even the 40mph winds and rain could dampen the enthusiasm!
The two teams were put into separate pools.
Pool B matches started against Foyle college. It was a tight game with ERGS edging it 4-3. Tries from Carly Graham, Ashley Beaumont x2 and Amie Ross. The second game was against RS Armagh. Again a tight game with tries from Amie Ross, Kerrie Elliott and Edie McCallum resulting in a 3-2 win. Their final game was against Magh Ene, with two tries from Amie Ross and then Edie McCallum and Sarah Tubman they secured a more comfortable 4-1 win. These results meant that the B team topped their group with three wins.
Pool A results were a 4-0 win against Foyle with tries from Chloe Moore, Scarlett Keys and Amanda Farrell. Match two was against RS Armagh, tries from Abi Brock, Niamh Johnston, Scarlett Keys and Chloe Moore securing a convincing 4-0 win. Match three was against Magh Ene with tries from Cloe and Abi this was a hard fought 2-0 win. The final match was against local rivals Fivemiletown HS. With tries from Chloe, Abi and Victoria Benson and three from Olivia Black, final 6-0 result secured the award of the Junior Ulster title, first won by ERGS in 2018.
The girls now qualify along with the senior team for the Irish Schools Contact 7s in Dublin later this year.
