Excellent Work Celebration Gallery, 29th May 2020

    By Enniskillen Royal | Latest News | Comments are Closed | 29 May, 2020 | 0

This week’s entries to the Celebration Gallery demonstrate some of the fantastic work and independent learning being done by ERGS pupils as they remain in lockdown but keen to keep their learning going. Don’t worry if your work isn’t included this week as teachers have been sending through all kinds of material that we will keep uploading over the coming days and weeks.

As part of ‘Mental Health Awareness this Week’ Year 8 were set a kindness challenge. Their aim was to take a photo of them showing an act of kindness. Thank you to all took part. – Mr McDevitt

Two examples of excellent work from Yr8 Historians Daniel Rowsome and Robert Kerr this week.  Their work is excellent because they have answered the questions very effectively and in detail – Mr McMahon

Year 8 HE pupils have been very busy preparing some culinary delights this week. Fabulous work year 8! We are immensely proud of the skills you continue to gain in Home Economics. Keep up the fantastic work.  – Mrs Wynne

Overall, Year 8 student, Sam Paton, has gained ‘Chef of the Week’ after creating so many exceptional, high-skilled products. Well done Sam!! On today’s menu, we have a basil and wild garlic pesto, where Sam even picked his own wild garlic!!! He used this to create a lovely basil and tomato flat-base tart. How amazing! He is also serving up a homemade flavoured bread and a delicious lemon drizzle cake. Thank you for your sheer passion and determination.

Junior Drama Club continue to rehearse for June’s production of ‘Erne Emergency’, the cast and crew of  Yr8 – 10 pupils are working really hard and we are very much looking ford to hearing their ‘virtual’ production next month. – Mrs Rees

As part of his Yr9 English work, Robbie McIlwrath, 9A has produced a brilliant poem where he has used language techniques and descriptive language very effectively. – Mr McMahon

Paul Hawthorne, Chloe Black and Madeline Hamill’s work is equally impressive and demonstrates real thought and creativity – well done all! – Miss Mulligan

Year 9 Library – Reading Log – Ella provided a very detailed Reading Log for her book. The exemplary work was supported with examples of a simile and a metaphor the author had used as well as identifying the literacy devices used by the author to portray the character’s emotions. Excellent review Ella. Ms McElmurray

Last week 18-24 May was Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme was Kindness. Year 10 students successfully embraced this theme by producing excellent work with some very important messages. Unfortunately, I couldn’t showcase all work received but well done to everyone! – Miss Curran

Year 10 ICT Pupils have been learning how to create algorithms that describe real-world directions, think about solving a problem many different ways, think about creating more “efficient” solutions to problems. Here are some screen shots of work completed by Kathryn Armstrong from 10A.

As we have seen over recent weeks, Year 10 artist have been experimenting with different techniques and working towards their ‘final piece’ – the first two of which were submitted last Friday by Zara Hutchinson and Natasha McKeown – Ms Stephenson

A fabulous Decoupage from Zara Hutchinson

A lovely composition from Natasha Mc Keown with a great sense of texture, pattern and variation in depth of tone in the pencil work.

Yr11 Physics – Mr Hutchings and Year 11 Physics pupils have been trailing ‘Google Forms’ for completion of assessments with some good results. Well done to Rhys Holmes, Demi Gault and Chloe Thompson on full marks in Space Physics Quiz 3 – Mr Hutchings

The Year 13 AS Nutrition and Food Science pupils have been using their time very productively by preparing for their Research Project which is worth 50% of A2.

The pupils were given a mini piece of research based on the current pandemic to develop and hone the skills required to access marks within the top band when they come to complete their Research Project in Year 14. The title of the Mini Research Project was ‘An investigation into the impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic on diet and lifestyle within the UK.’

One aspect of the Research Project is to write a 1100 word Literature Review on their chosen research topic.  Pupils find this aspect particularly challenging as it involves extensive research, the ability to critically evaluate the literature examined as well as correctly citing the sources in-text and in a Bibliography using the Harvard Referencing System by employing the QUB cite2write website (https://www.qub.ac.uk/cite2write/). A high level of work has been produced and is currently being annotated to provide formative feedback to lead to improvement and greater attainment when completing their research unit in Year 14.- Mrs Kettyle & Mr Finlay

    Elle Gilmore’s  Investigation

    Henry Hutchninson’s Investigation

    James Ritchie’s Investigation

    Lana Bothwell’s Investigation

And finally this week we will leave you with a bit of music from Yr10  pupil Jiraporn Magee – The Music Department have recently set-up a new Google Classroom for pupils to upload their performances during lockdown so hopefully we can look forward to hearing a few more throughout the month of June. – Miss Rasdale.
