Excellent Work Celebration Gallery, 15th January 2021

    By Enniskillen Royal | Latest News | Comments are Closed | 15 January, 2021 | 1

It has been a very busy start to the Spring Term at ERGS as we all get used to another period online blended learning. Despite the isolation, it has been brilliant to see so much positive engagement in virtual learning ,and to celebrate the efforts of the pupils, staff and parents, here are just a few examples of the outstanding work  that has been produced over the last two weeks – Well done everyone!!

Year 8 Geographers spent some time working on their photography skills through a Geography extension activity encouraging pupils to get outside and take photos with the theme of ice/frost. – Mrs Armstrong

Mr McMahon’s  Year 8 English classes completed a piece of creative writing with the title ‘The Voyage’.  Arwen McCallum completed a piece of creative writing that was excellent.  This piece of work is excellent because Arwen has used a range of language techniques and punctuation devices and she has varied sentence structure for added impact.  – Mr McMahon

Here is an example of some superb work from 8D on coats of arms as part of their Yr8 History Curriculum – Dr McCallum

This term in Art and Design, Year 8 are working on a unit about Colour Theory. 8A have been engaged in a series of experiments about colour and light. One of these experiments has been to make spinning colour wheels to generate white light. Here are some examples by Emily Black, Brooke Davis, Tori Davis, Shane Evans, Livia Gallagher, Sarah Gallagher and  Oliver Harte. Oliver and Sarah even sent in some videos of their spinning wheels. What stars ! – Ms Stephenson

Year 8 Science pupils have been creating their own Cell Models with some superb results uploaded over the last 2 weeks, here are just few examples by Emma Bullock, Alfie Pattison and Hughie Beddard, Well done Everyone! – Mr Gallagher

9B pupils, Harry Coalter, Hannah Dunn, Mackenzie Corbett, Mei Se & Amelie Martin got creative in making Christmas Cupcakes and Celebration Cakes. Harry made the three Celebration Cakes while Hannah and Amelie made Christmas Cupcakes (Hannah’s are top left, and Amelie’s are bottom right)  “Where there’s a whisk there’s away” – Mrs Kettyle

After studying some Conan Doyle detective stories in English. Year 9 pupils in Miss Mulligan’s class were asked to create their own detective, a crime and create a file of evidence to support how the detective solved the crime. They have since presented their cases to the ERGS CPS to decide if they are strong enough to go to court. Everyone in the class embraced challenge of some independent learning producing a range of thoughtful and creative work.- Miss Mulligan.

Year 9 Artists have been working on a unit of work about Portraiture. 9C have just finished their realistic colouring pencil portraits, using a colouring pencil blending technique. These super examples are by Hannah Tubman, Ryan Graham, Anna Little, James Robinson, Daniel Rowsome, Ben Shaw, Justin Smith, Lorcan Sreenivasan and Kelci Thompson – but can you guess who is who? – Ms Stephenson.

Well done to the winners of the  Yr10 Tropical Rainforest poster competition which took place before the Christmas holidays in Mrs Armstrong’s classes. The theme was Destruction. Here are the winning entries judged by Mr Finlay & some of the A2 Level Geography class. – Mrs Armstrong

Last term Mr Mason had set each Year 10 tutor group the ‘Pepper Plant Challenge’  with the responsibility for nurturing and growing 3 pepper plants in their hub tutor bases. These pictures were taken at the end of last term – all thankfully survived Christmas and are currently being tended by Mr Mason ready for the pupils’ return later in the term.  The question is whose will produce the first Pepper? – Mr Mason

Year 10 Biology students have been studying Heart and Circulation.  They were given the task of creating a Mind Map to aid their revision for the end of unit test.  Here are some excellent examples of their work.  Well done to all! – Dr Hogg

Year 11 German students submitted extended answers on the topic of holidays. Joseph O’Kane deserves a special mention because of the fantastic detail in his answers, which were very well developed and included a variety of interesting phrases and vocabulary – Mrs Donald

Yr11 English pupils have started working on some exam work for Unit 1. Having spent some time discussing presentational features they were set the  task of  coming up with their own advertising material for something they feel strongly about. They then had to suggest reasons for their presentational choices. These two examples were particularly impressive by Elisha Gallagher and Zara Hutchinson. – Miss Mulligan

Year 11 ICT students have been learning about cloud computing and how it has impacted on gaming. This week they collaborated on Jamboard to compile knowledge and opinions on the positives, negatives and potential changes in the future.

Year 11 student, Phoebe Smith, has been busy during lockdown creating an apple and blueberry oat crumble to correspond to the theory topic Fibre. Phoebe has displayed excellent attention to detail and I am very impressed by her efforts. Well done, Phoebe.  – Miss Wynne

Year 11 Re students have been continuing with their GCSE studies and looking at the concept of Religious Festivals.  Here are two excellent examples of independent research completed by Brendan Munar and Edie McCallum – Miss Strong.

Year 14 Digital Technology class have been learning about Legislation this week covering Data Protection Act, Computer Misuse Act and Copyright, Designs and Patents Act. Hannah Boyd has drawn up this summary of the key points. – Mrs McManus

And finally this week – the PE Department launched the Inter-House Cuilcagh Boardwalk Challenge – just click below for  snap-shot of the sterling efforts uploaded throughout the week.

I’m sure you will agree that despite the obvious challenges posed by COVID, the quality of work on display ,which represents a small cross section of the learning and engagement across school, is testament to the tremendous efforts of the teachers and young people in our school community.
