On Wednesday 23rd March, the Inter Netball Team faced a new opponent when they met St Ronan’s College, Lurgan in the 2nd of their N.I. League matches.
This was an excellent match during which both teams played some very high standard Netball. Our team were fresh from their Rugby Cup final, played the day before, and, although tired, were determined to play a good match. To this end, the girls started strongly with the first quarter being very tight – only a point in it, in our favour.
Deciding to keep the team unchanged for the second quarter, ERGS again played some super end to end Netball. However, it became noticeable that their energy levels were flagging. With our 3 year 11 girls playing their own Rugby Blitz today, we missed the depth that we could normally call upon. The scores remained close, with 2 points in it, but in St Ronan’s favour now.
In the third quarter, we changed up the team to add some fresh legs. This helped boost the team for a while, but unfortunately – they were all done in from the previous day’s exertions. St Ronan’s began to stretch their lead.
It came to the final quarter, and it was so obvious that the girls were pulling energy from who knows where, to keep them on the court. St. Ronan’s defence were very strong by the end, that they blocked any attempt we had of getting the ball into the circle and having a shot.
Despite a valiant effort, the team lost 25-15.
