The last school ski trip took place in JAN 2020 just before the Covid19 pandemic hit. Last year’s trip was cancelled so a decision to take the current Yr10’s who missed out then and the current Yr9’s was made. A total of 130 students (75 Yr 9’s & 55 Yr 10’s) were accompanied by 9 staff, Mrs Aly Finlay & Dr R Wright & split into 2 travel groups.
TUES 15th – Travel Out
Mr Finlay’s group of Yr10’s and four Yr9’s were the first to arrive in resort and have their ski fit and dinner on the evening of 15th Mar with Mr Hodgson’s Yr9 group eventually getting to resort in the early hours of 16th Mar with a late dinner or early breakfast being gratefully consumed.
WEDS 16th – Ski Day 1
An early ski fit for the Yr9’s after a 4 hour sleep and organised chaos getting everyone ready for the slopes. Cramming like sardines into the ski buses all were eventually ready for their first day of action! All were grouped slope-side and off they all went in various different directions! Everyone rather jaded that evening so a torchlit walk was abandoned and gratefully substituted for a more sedentary experience of Movie Night and Cool Runnings!!
THURS 17th – Ski Day 2
St Patrick’s Day on the slopes with shades of green being worn in celebration. Sports Centre evening pursuits including tennis, badminton, table tennis & pool. A student drama production impersonating certain staff was a box office hit as was the staff rendition of O Danny Boy again on stage and a fitting end to the evening.
FRI 18th – Ski Day 3
The skiing is starting to improve and groups becoming more adventurous exploring new slopes. The Disco evening was a chance for some to show off some dance moves.
SAT 19th – Ski Day 4
Slope –side party in Arnouva our main meeting area with tubing at lunchtime just in case the skiing was not enough adrenalin. Evening shopping in Montana village & the big match Ire v Scot watched on the big screen in resort over dinner.
SUN 20th – Ski Day 5
Final day on the slopes with all groups making great improvement. Evening activity was the Sports Centre Indoor Climbing Wall
MON 21st – Travel Back
Mr Finlay’s group extra night in Geneva!! This due to BA cancelling their flight due to technical issues. All were put up by BA in a swanky hotel with a banquet for dinner & a table quiz organised by Mr J Clarke. Mr Hodgson’s group continued their travel as scheduled
