After a two year hiatus due to Covid-19 and the associated lockdowns, our Year 10 and 11 pupils were keen to welcome our German Exchange partners for their visit to Fermanagh. From Wednesday 21st September to Friday 30th September, 20 German pupils and their two accompanying teachers, Mrs Deegen and Mrs Sievert, were hosted by local families and visited some of the beautiful sites we have on offer here in Fermanagh and further afield.
The German pupils accompanied their host to some lessons at school to experience life as a pupil at ERGS, and even got to take part in some rowing with Mr Holland and his team. We were all invited to a warm reception with the Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council at Enniskillen Castle, where he welcomed our guests and wished all participants in the Exchange a wonderful experience, during which he hoped many friendships would be made and fun would be had!
Our German visitors had an opportunity to explore the North Coast and the Giants Causeway, including a trip to Morelli’s in Portstewart for ice cream. They visited the Ulster American Folk Park outside Omagh, enjoyed a tour of the City Walls in Derry/Londonderry and visited Sligo, stopping off at Glencar Waterfall and Yeats’ Grave en route.
Our host pupils now look forward with anticipation to our visit to Bielefeld in September 2023, where they will experience first-hand life in Germany and hopefully get to practise some of their language skills!
