ERBC travelled to O’Briens Bridge, Limerick last Saturday for the first race of the season. 96 crews in total competed for the Club and they won thirteen of the categories. The girls won the Ailish Sheehan Cup for the highest points tally over the course of the day, with the boys taking 3rd place overall in the Jim Ahern Cup.
Acorn Cassidy and Kate Huddlestone won the WJ18 2X beating the crew from Shannon Rc by 10.5 secs. The J18 quad of Eva Johnston and Zara Welsh, Acorn Cassidy and Kate Huddlestone took the win over the girls from Cork BC by 11.3 secs. Austin Cassidy had a very successful day winning the J15 single scull, the J15 double along with Evan Donaghy, and the J15 quad with Evan, Luke Bailey and Andrew Cuthbertson. Hugo McChesney, Joe Murphy, Eoghan Campbell, Jake Sembhi coxed by Katelyn Fee won the MJ16+
Annabelle Kingston and Ruby Hamill won the J16 double while Owen Kelly, Oran Harty, George Kernaghan, Oliver Khew and cox Katelyn Fee won the J18 4+.
The WJ14 Octuple of Tori Davis, Caitlin Kelly, Darcy Balfour, Abbie McCarthy Magwood, Isabella Wright, Aoibhin Campbell, Amy Williamson, Grace Collins and Cox Brooke Davis (who has returned to rowing after breaking her leg at the end of last season) beat the crew from Cork Bc by a very impressive 45.1 secs. In the MJ14 8X+ Cillian Donaghy, Oliver McNeary, Joshua Ihnat, Matthew Montgomery, Cameron Bell, Shane O’Donnell, Jacob Woods and Ollie Powell and cox Abbey Wilson had a great win. Isabella Wright, Darcy Balfour, Caitlin Kelly, Abbie McCarthy Magwood and Cox Jessica Thompson won the WJ14 4X+
Eva Fowler, Flavia Remedios, Penny Huddlestone, Aimee Turner coxed by Abbey Wilson won the WJ13 4X+ category, a great win for them and they were suitably delighted. Many thanks to all the coaches and parents who made the long journey to Limerick to cheer all the crews on.
11th November sees Erne Fours Head take place on Lough Erne and we are looking forward to seeing a large entry for the event.
