Thanks to Heather McCaffrey, Madison Blair, Andrea Lunny, Ashling Man, Poppy Ramsey, Doireann Graham, Oliwia Jusiak and Skye McCabe for their refreshing views on this month’s novel The Secret History by Donna Tartt. Thanks also for a welcome guest appearance by Mr Elliott. There were interestingly mixed opinions – “not my cup of tea as it failed to sufficiently tackle issues like racism”, “I was impressed by the narration and how this shaped our reading of the book”, but we were all agreed that it more than merits the title “modern classic” with universal themes, memorable characters and deep psychological insight into the characters. We gave it an average score of 8 out of 10. Our next book choice is the classic seasonal read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Date tbc.
