On Friday 23rd February our four wonderful year 10 reading ambassadors Lily Shaw, Freya Boyd McManus, Charlotte Bukowska and Uma De Naipir represented ERGS at the regional heat of the UK National reading Champions Quiz 2024 at Killicomaine Junior High School Portadown. 15 teams competed from across the province and we were proud to be the ones to represent Fermanagh in this important competition. After 8 exciting rounds of questions covering a diverse range of books from the Very Hungry Caterpillar to Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery, from bestsellers to brainteasers, sports fiction to crime thrillers, Strathearn emerged victorious, and we were proud to be awarded best mascot prize with our charismatic frog Victor sporting his resplendent Dr Who scarf!
To say that every young person in the competition is a winner is a very true statement. Everyone left with an enhanced buzz for reading and our ERGS team are fine ambassadors for the power of reading and this life-enriching skill will take them far in life! ERGS couldn’t be more proud, well done girls!
Our thanks go to Mrs Friel our librarian on the Cooper Crescent site, who helped the team prepare for this event and who accompanied them on the day.
