On the morning of Friday 7th November, we held our annual Remembrance Service on our Cooper Crescent site, honouring the men and women who have sacrificed themselves in service to our country.
We were pleased to welcome Air Marshal Sean Reynolds CB CBE DFC RAF, Air Officer Northern Ireland, members of the Regimental Pipes & Drums Band of the Royal Dragoon Guards, members of the Dragoon Guards, guests from our partner schools within the Fermanagh Learning Community and representatives from the wider community to our Senior Remembrance Event, attended by our Sixth Form pupils. We were also delighted to be joined, as is our tradition, by a group of staff and pupils from Clongowes Wood College, our partner school for the past forty-five years.
During the service, readings and prayers were led by our Senior Pupil Leaders and pupils from our partner schools. Rev Steve Kennedy delivered a powerful address on the value of our human lives lived in the service of God and others.
Wreaths were laid by Jake Irwin and Anna Cairns, our Head Boy and Head Girl, a senior pupil from Clongowes and John Aiken, President of the Old Portora Union, to commemorate those from our schools who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The music for the occasion was conducted by Mrs Bloomfield and performed by the Senior Wind Band, complemented by the Pipe Band who played to welcome and bid farewell to our guests. Our members of the Pipe Band and drummers were honoured to be joined in this by members of the Regimental Pipes and Drums Band of the Royal Dragoon Guards. Bugler Erin Trimble performed The Last Post and Reveille with a tone befitting the solemnity of the occasion. In the afternoon our Sixth Formers welcomed the opportunity to spend time with their Clongowes Wood College counterparts as together they tackled the challenges of the afternoon activities.
