We had a highly successful and thoroughly enjoyable day competing in the Northern Ireland heat of the National Reading Champions Quiz at Killicomaine Junior High School, Portadown.
Our fantastic team comprised Cathair McCusker (10B), Finn McEvoy (9D), Ciara McCusker (9B) and Jacob McCaffrey (9A).
For the second year running, we tied for 1st place out of 25 teams. After three nail-biting tie-break questions, we still could not be separated and progressed to a sudden-death question (“How many words are in The Cat in the Hat?”). In the end, we were narrowly beaten by St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon.
The reading knowledge displayed by our team was truly impressive, and we thoroughly enjoyed the buzz of being surrounded by so many fellow avid readers. It was wonderful to see such strong participation during this National Year of Reading.
The team will be awarded book tokens for their second-place finish, and we confidently look forward to lifting the cup next year!
