The Angus Youth Challenge is a prestigious, skills-based competition organised by ABP in partnership with the Northern Irish Angus Producer Group. It’s open to Year 11 pupils who have a keen interest in agriculture and the agri-food industry.
We are proud to share that since securing a place in the final, our dedicated team, Mackenzie Wilson, Jenson Lindsey, Conor Phair, and Alfie Thompson, have all been working extremely hard.
Their Angus calves arrived just before Christmas and have now settled in well on the farm. The team has been actively documenting their progress and can be followed on Facebook under Ergsabpangus Youthchallenge.
As part of their wider engagement, the group delivered an informative and engaging presentation to Year 8 and Year 10 pupils during assembly. They introduced the Angus Youth Challenge, explained their goals, and shared their future plans for the competition. To further involve the school community, they invited junior pupils to help name the calves – adding a fun and inclusive touch to their journey.
We wish them the very best of luck in the next stage of the competition!
Country Comes to Town – Fundraiser Success!
On February 11th, the ABP Angus Youth Challenge team organised a themed non-uniform day titled ‘Country Comes to Town’. Pupils and staff embraced the countryside spirit with some fantastic outfits on display across both school sites!
There was great enthusiasm throughout the day, with plenty of fun and prizes awarded to those who went the extra mile with their country-inspired looks.
Thanks to the generosity and participation of everyone involved, a brilliant £596.50 was raised. This will be donated to Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, a vital service that supports emergency care across the country.
Well done to everyone who got involved and supported such a worthy cause!
ABP Angus Youth Challenge Team at P7 Open Night
As part of the recent P7 Open Night, the ABP Angus Youth Challenge team set up an eye-catching stall to showcase their project. This gave prospective pupils and their families a great insight into the exciting opportunities available at our school – particularly in agriculture and the agri-food sector.
With our catchment area stretching across the length and breadth of Fermanagh, it was fantastic to welcome families from across the county. The team enjoyed chatting to visitors about their journey in the competition so far, the arrival of their Angus calves, and their plans for the future.
Media Training at Bauer Studios
As part of their ABP Angus Youth Challenge journey, the team recently visited Bauer Media Studios (home to Cool FM, Downtown Radio, and Downtown Country) for an exciting day of media training.
The group learned valuable skills in communication, radio production, and public speaking, all while getting a behind-the-scenes look at how professional broadcasts are made. The highlight of the day was creating their very own radio advert, which turned out brilliantly!
It was a fantastic experience for all involved, and the team came away with enhanced confidence and a brand-new skill set to support them throughout the competition.
