From the first whistle it was clear that ERGS were not out to lose this match. The first half showed Enniskillen having the most possession. A straight ball by Fiona Knowles from the top of the circle was met by Emma Beatty and two Foyle players. Beatty skilfully dribbled round both players into the circleRead more
Continuing their series of home games, ERGS hosted their fellow Royal school, Dungannon, on a dismal wet morning at Castle Lane, hunting for another win. With prep this week all based around discipline, the more technical aspects of the breakdown and the rules of the game there was an expectation of this progressive young sideRead more
Played in light drizzle in Dungannon, this game was unlikely to match Leinster’s performance on Friday night for excitement but Enniskillen ground out a well deserved victory and provided a little entertainment at the same time. For the first few minutes, Dungannon’s capable full back kept ERGS inside their 22m line with accurate kicking untilRead more

Year I left ERGS: 2019
A” Level subjects studied: Technology and Design, Mathematics and Business Studies (Spanish at AS Level)
Pathway after school: Started university in September 2019 whilst working part-time in my family business as Assistant Shop Manager
University attended: Queen’s University Belfast
Course studied: Business Management with Placement (4 years)
I started at Queen’s University Belfast in September 2019 and enjoyed a few months of a “normal” university experience before COVID-19 brought a sudden shift to online learning in March 2020.
During my time at university, I was awarded Top Business Management Student (2019/2020) and Top Student for History and Philosophy. I also completed the Degree Plus Award for Future Ready Skills in Management before graduating in 2023 with a First Class Honours degree.
After graduating, I was approached on LinkedIn about an opportunity that led to me joining the Oil Market Journal (OMJ) as Business Development Manager in Enniskillen in September 2023.
Although I have always lived at home in County Tyrone, I am very grateful for the opportunities I have had to travel with work, including visits to Dubai, Spain, Italy, Poland and Germany, as well as across the UK and Ireland.
Outside of work, I help out in my family business and volunteer both as a Girlguiding leader and as a youth club leader within my church. Through Girlguiding, I have also enjoyed incredible experiences, including spending a week as part of the crew on a Tall Ships yacht and, more recently, completing the Queen’s Guide Award — the highest award available within Girlguiding UK.
I am very grateful to both the Collegiate and Enniskillen Royal Grammar School for providing me with such a strong foundation and for encouraging the values of hard work, resilience and determination from an early age.

Year I left: 2020
Subjects: Geography, Biology and English Literature
As part of the first full GCSE cohort of the school, I left ERGS on a random day in March 2020. Our formal was cancelled and we all expected to be back after a couple of weeks — but we all know what happened next.
I knew the COVID-19 pandemic was going to ruin the typical “freshers” experience, so I deferred my place at Newcastle University to work in my local SPAR for a year. I was sad seeing all my friends leave, but I built up money and work experience that helped open doors for me in the future.
I’d recommend Newcastle to any student. I made some amazing memories and left with a First Class BSc in Environmental Science with Placement, along with an award for the best dissertation in my year.
My placement year was spent as an Assistant Geo-Environmental Consultant at Tetra Tech in Belfast. I worked on some really big projects, including the GeoEnergyNI demonstrator project - the first large-scale geothermal investigation of Northern Ireland.
I am currently studying a Master’s Degree in Forestry for Green Sustainable Development at Linnaeus University in Sweden. There are no tuition fees in Sweden for EU citizens or those with an Irish passport, so I think this is a pathway that should be promoted more often. I really love it over here and everything is taught in English, so don’t worry if your Swedish isn’t up to scratch!
Thank you to Mr Beddard for shouting at me to fix my deforestation homework. It turns out I’m quite good at talking about trees after all!
