We can’t change our geography. That was the key message from the Head of the European Commission Office in Northern Ireland, Colette Fitzgerald, when she welcomed the 10 school teams to the final of the Opportunity Europe Euro Quiz at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Belfast today. An awareness and appreciation of the culture of our European neighbours can enrich our lives and be invaluable both personally and professionally in the future.
The ERGS Euro Quiz team, who fought off tough competition at the regional final in Omagh a month ago, came out runners-up in today’s final, losing out by just 2 points to Methodist College, the overall winner.
Darcey Crawford, Amos Johnston, Conor Corrigan, Inis Columb-Hallewell, Hattie Cooper and Feb Columb-Hallewell prepared thoroughly for the quiz and their efforts earned them silver medals. The team were also presented with the runners-up silver plate.
