GCSE GEOGRAPHY FIELD TRIP — DAY 2 AT THE SILLEES
A drizzly start to Day 2, but we managed to avoid the rain for the rest of the day and complete another successful morning of fieldwork on the Sillees River. Pupils once again worked together in their groups to collect the sets of data for next year’s Unit 3 Fieldwork examination, including width, depth, velocity and bedload measurements.
Today was also a special milestone for Mr Mason, who is retiring this year and led his final field trip. A memorable moment for pupils and staff, marking the end of many years of dedicated Geography fieldwork. Thank you Mr Mason, you will be missed!

Success in National Engineering Competition
The Technology & Design Department entered all Year 9 and Year 10 pupils into the UK-wide competition, “If I Were an Engineer, What Would I Do?”
This competition invites pupils from primary and secondary schools across the UK to imagine themselves as engineers and consider what real-world problem they would most like to solve. As part of the process, pupils interview engineering professionals to gain inspiration before designing their own innovative solutions.
We were delighted to work with former pupil Leigh Crozier, who acted as our link engineer and provided invaluable support and inspiration throughout the project.
The standard of entries was exceptional, with over 50 of our pupils shortlisted. We are particularly proud that four pupils received Highly Commended awards: Ewan, Abel, Jacob and Jessica, while Sophie, Amelia, Joshua and Tommy were named competition winners.
The winning entries will now be showcased at an exhibition at Ulster University in Belfast next week.
Congratulations to all of our pupils who took part in this fantastic achievement, and especially to those who were shortlisted, highly commended, and recognised as winners. We wish them every success at the exhibition.

GCSE GEOGRAPHY FIELD TRIP — DAY 1 AT THE SILLEES
A fantastic first day for our GCSE Geographers at the Sillees River. The sun made an appearance but the river was quite full, which meant lots of wet wellies and plenty of laughs along the way.
Pupils showed excellent behaviour throughout, working safely and sensibly as they collected data for next year’s Unit 3 Fieldwork examination. They measured width, depth, velocity and bedload size and shape, seeing their classroom learning come to life.
A brilliant start to our investigation - great teamwork, great attitudes and great fun. Early to bed tonight after all that fresh air!
