The second debate of this year’s debating society took place last Thursday at the Lakeland Youth centre and the motion was:
“This house believes that religion should still be taught in schools.”
Proposing the motion were Dylan Thompson and Arron O’Donnell, and opposing the motion were Nadine Curtis and Adrianna Hurst.
Yet again, the debate was full of strong and persuasive arguments from both sides, with topics such as Christian values, the relevance of religion in the 21st century and the teaching of other world religions all being passionately argued, which lead to an engaging and eye-opening debate.
Both sides showed an impeccable level of professionalism, courage and coherence, which was highly impressive for what was, for many, their first debate.
After a highly impressive question round, the house voted against the motion.
The next debate takes place after school on Thursday the 12th of December at the Lakeland Youth Centre, all are welcome to come along and participate.
Next motion:
“This house believes that the voting age should be lowered to 16”
