A superb competitive run-out this morning in Limavady as the ERGS 14Bs took on their north coast hosts. From kick-off the ERGS lads regained possession and started to advance up the pitch but the Limavady defence held strong and did not make it easy to keep going forward or retain the ball. The first score of the game came from A Lucy at No. 8 who’s footwork and determination got him over the line, well converted by No.13 Z Blackford. Limavady regrouped and came back at the boys strong managing to equalise 7-7 at half time.
Centre C Donaghy opened the scoring for ERGS in the second half with an impressive run from the 22, No.9 F Rowland stepping up to convert from under the posts, putting the boys ahead and giving them a boost. The third score came from No1 A Little from a messy but well recycled forwards’ try in the left corner of the field, brilliantly converted by Blackford. Shortly after No.5 J Little then crashed his way over the line for the forth and once again Blackford claimed the additional 2 points. With 5 mins to go Limiavady were not giving up and clearly wanted to score again before the end of the match. They attacked hard and on two occasions managed to get them selves over the line to come within reach of the draw. After a final motivational team talk from captain R Balfour the ERGS boys now had to defend for a nail biting final minute of the game. Final score 21-28 to ERGS.
Men of the match this week went to L Miller, H Farrell and F Rowland for their willingness to step forward and play for both ERGS and Limavady at points in the game in order to maintain a competitive 15 aside match.
