As the first half kicked off the ERGS 3rdXV were quickly introduced to a determined Armagh side and were immediately on the back-foot as successive Armagh phases pushed the defensive line backwards and eventually forced their way through and over the line. The first half saw the ERGS men gradually find there feet whilst Armagh’s No.7 and No.5 asserted themselves on the game scoring three more tries and a conversion.
In the second half, the ERGS men became more organised in defence and attack and began to match Armagh and begin to turn the tables. A well worked try finished by No.13 Irvine’s strong running gave the players the boost they needed, and once again they began to build and push Armagh backwards. Try number two came from an impressive box kick charge-down by No.8 Kathro from an Armagh lineout in their own 22. Unfortunately in the dying minutes Armagh scored one last try to seal the score 27-10 in their favour.
