It was great to invite fellow Fermanagh school rugby team Devenish College U14s to Castle Lane this afternoon for a friendly against a 22 man 14B squad.
The ERGS boys took to the pitch with determination captained by Balfour who led from the front and had an excellent game all round. Solid rucking from Whitton, A Little, Johnston, Millar, Farrell and Crawford provided No 9 and 10 Blackford and Moore with clean ball resulting in quick distribution to the centres allowing Madill, Donaghy, Kelly and Harte plenty of chances to challenge and break the defensive line. It was great to see some strong route one running from No4 & 5 Warrington and J Little with No.2 Pattison putting in some impressive carries and tackles around the breakdown. No8 Stefanyan continued to gallop up the pitch leaving choas in his wake and was rewarded for his efforts at the end of the first half with a great try in the corner. At fullback Evans followed by Beattie in the second half both gave a great account of themselves defensively with Evans scoring a number of tries for his troubles. On the wings Irvine and Repass both worked hard all game to close down the Devenish runners frequently cleaning spilt ball for the turnover. It was however, fellow winger, Calvin Gault who’s shear bravery and determination, despite the size of his opposition, earned him a well deserved man of the match award in the second half.
A big thank you to Mr Whitaker and the Devenish boys for the game and we wish them luck as they play their first league game of the season this coming Monday🏉💪
Final score 30-10.
