It was a busy and exciting day of netball for our Year 8 girls.
The morning saw the team compete in the Fermanagh and Tyrone Cup Final, facing strong opposition from Mount Lourdes Grammar, St Ciaran’s College (Ballygawley), St Fanchea’s College, Sacred Heart College (Omagh), and Cookstown High School. Every game brought tough challenges and close scorelines, but our girls showed incredible determination, resilience, and teamwork across the court. They were rewarded with 3rd place, narrowly missing out on 2nd place due only to the number of goals scored for and against during each match by the tying teams. A superb achievement by the young ERGS side.
In the afternoon, we played a challenge match against Devenish College for those girls who did not get to play earlier in the day. The 12-strong squad put up a very promising display against some of their old Primary school friends, now at Devenish. It was lovely to witness such good relationships on and off court amongst all the girls, with both teams learning valuable skills and tactics from each other. The ERGS girls did come away with the win on the day, but it was the camaraderie which was the real winner in our eyes.
Both squads are to be commended for all the hard work, effort and dedication they put in both today and during training in preparation for today’s fixtures. Special mention must go to Senior Netball players Anna Cairns (Year 13) and Lana Traynor (Year 14) for all the help and support they have provided for Year 8 Netball. Netball will continue for year 8 after a well deserved Easter break.
