ERGS 3rd XV ran out for their first fixture of the season against a well drilled and confident Methody 3s away at Pirrie Park, Belfast.
The opening twenty minutes proved a tough lesson for the newly formed ERGS side, who were quickly shown why their opposition triumphed in last year’s Thirds Cup Competition. Despite the clear challenge ahead, the ERGS boys dug in and kept going with several men putting in outstanding individual to performances. The second half saw the ERGS XV move up a gear and hold out Methody for a good 20 minute spell through improved defence and greater support play for our own runners, man of the match O.Caldbeck at centre certainly made his mark on the Methody back line repeatedly cutting them down and challenging their defence with ball in hand. Captained by R Daly, the ERGS men kept their discipline to the very end and despite a tough defeat came away having enjoyed the experience and seeing clearly their potential for the season ahead.
Final Score, Methody 52 – ERGS 0
