On Saturday 1st October, a sunny/rainy and blustery day, 3 of our pupils represented the school for the 2nd leg of the Interschools Show jumping League.
Tess was once again taking part in the 75cm Class and was hoping to equal last weeks double clear. Warming up in the sunny arena, she came in for her round and the heavens opened! Undeterred, Tess and Elvis took all in their stride. The duo were jumping well and nearly got round fault-free. Unfortunately, they entered a fence at the wrong angle and just clipped a pole. 4 faults, but a steady round, nonetheless.
After a short break to change the heights for the 85cm Class, Erin and Bess got ready and awaited their turn to warm-up before being called to jump. Like Tess, Erin was hoping to get a double clear to equal last week. Unfortunately, she also clipped a pole to come away with the 4 faults. Not having seen this pairing jump since last year, I was greatly impressed by just how much they have improved. A very confident Erin sat atop a more relaxed Bess. After clipping the pole in the first part, she decided to see how speedily she could complete the 2ndpart. This she did in under 30 secs and not a pole dropped. A good round from these two.
Finally, right at the end of the 85cm Class, were Hannah and Belle. Belle hadn’t jumped in competition since last year, so this was a matter of re-introducing her to the Arena. The pair looked good in the warm-up which was encouraging. They jumped the first 5 fences without a problem, then came the double spread! Belle really did not like this fence. Despite Hannah’s efforts, she had made her mind up! So – an area to work on before their next show.
In all, it was a good day for the girls. Nice to be back up at the meadows again for another season.
The next events will be the Omagh High School show on Thursday 13th October followed by Leg 3 of the Meadows on Saturday 15th October.
