ERGS Cup Team made the trip to the mid-ulster Sports Arena, joint topping their group after a 4-2 win over FMT College. Tries scored by Lucie-Ann Abbott, Ruby Moore and Jodie Thompson.
A 5-5 draw with Omagh Academy, tries scored by Lucie-Ann Abbott, Jodie Thompson, Carla Smith, Rianna Mulligan and Ruby Moore.
The final group game was a 5-0 win over Armagh RS’s B team. Tries scored by Chloe Robinson, Carla Smith, Grace Bracken and Jodie Thompson.
Omagh went through to the QFs as top of the group with more bonus points, leaving ERGS to play Armagh’s A team in the QF. The girls struggled to get a foothold in the game early on and conceded first. The girls equalised with a great try out wide only to switch off and concede another try down the blind side leaving it 2-1 with a minute to go. ERGS moved the ball well from the restart and scored in the corner with the last play of the game to leave it 2-2, tries scored by Carla and Rianna.
Armagh progressed through as they scored first. A disappointing end to an undefeated run and the girls should be extremely proud of themselves.
The development team also had a very strong tournament. The first game was against Devenish College 3s. The girls hit the ground running, crossing the try line 7 times with tries from Emily Murray x4, Erin Wallace, Sarah Gallagher and Lily McFarland.
The 2nd match was against Magh Ene. A slightly tighter game but the defence held strong winning 4-1 with tries from Sarah x2 Lily and Emily.
The 3rd game was against Sullivan Upper 2. Again a tight match which tested the defensive side of the team’s play, but held strong with tries from Rebecca Woods, Lauren McCordick, Erin Wallace, Summer Richie and Summer Armstrong making it 5-2.
The fourth and final game was against Newbridge Integrated with the team running out 8-0 winners. Try’s from Summer A x2 Sarah x3 Lucia McCusker, Emily and Summer Richie.
It was both successful and frustrating in equal measure. The girls have put in a lot of effort over the season and all should be proud of the strength and depth the Juniors have developed.
We now look forward to the sponsored 5K run and the end of season dinner on 28th April.
