Last year saw the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School’s Kids Lit Quiz team win the NI Regional heat, the UK Final and ranked among the top 10 schools in terms of literature knowledge at the World Championship in Singapore. Due to age restrictions it was a slightly different team that headed off this year to the Regional Heat of the Kids Lit Quiz at Wellington College in Belfast on 12 November 2019.
Heather McCaffrey who had been a member of last year’s team was accompanied by Emma Fawcett, Barry Hutchinson and Kyle Cadden this year. They were competing against 26 teams from schools across the province.
The team were making steady progress despite the diverse questions ranging from classic children’s literature to more contemporary works including nonsense poetry and publisher’s logos. It wasn’t until the 6th round it all fell into place for them and the team managed to hold onto their lead. After the 10 rounds the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School Kids Lit Quiz team emerged victorious and brought the Plaque back to Co. Fermanagh.
The Kids’ Lit Quiz is an annual literature competition for children aged 10 to 13. It puts readers onto the stage and lets them compete for fantastic prizes. It is a major celebration of books and reading which offers irresistible reading challenges, broadens awareness, is hugely motivating and best of all, is great fun!
