ERBC made their way to Belfast last Saturday for their inaugural event of 2026, the Lagan Head of the River. This competition marked the opening of their racing schedule for the year, as crews assembled on the River Lagan to challenge their speed and coordination against formidable opponents from across the area. The club’s attendance reflected both a sense of excitement and resolve, heralding the start of what promises to be an excellent season.
The club enjoyed a spectacular day, claiming victory in nine categories. Among the highlights was the girls’ First Eight, who emerged as the Fastest Women’s crew overall in Race 2. The winning crew featured Claire Walsh, Isabella Wright, Naomi Robinson, Clodagh Donaghy, Zara Welsh, Emily Black, Rhea Cartin McCloskey, Hannah Armstrong, and cox Jessica Thompson. The boys’ J16 Eight—comprising Evan Clarke, Josh Allen, Oliver Collins, Oliver Jennings, Caelan Moore, Joel Crean, Reece Brady, Harry Welsh, and Ollie Powell—also performed admirably in their category taking a convincing win over Coleraine Grammar School and Bann RC
Further triumphs came from Maeve Rolston McAuliffe and Clodagh Donaghy, who took first place in the Women’s Junior 15 Double, demonstrating impressive skill and teamwork throughout their race. Oliver Collins and Josh Allen secured a win in the Men’s Double, further contributing to the club’s success and underlining the depth of talent within ERBC’s crews.
Beth Bradley, Kaityln Read, Cat Starrett, Holly Shaw, Oliwia Muras, Sophie Collum, Amy Brazil, Casey Lee Leonard, and cox Nicole Graham claimed victory in the WJ15 Octo category following a competitive race against the girls from Methody. Their determination and collaborative spirit shone through, earning a memorable win and enhancing an already remarkable tally of results for the club.
In addition, George Elliott, Eli Irvine, Levi Thompson, Ethan Vance, Benjamin Johnston, Jack Cuthbertson, Harvey Simmons, Finlay Bell, and cox Leah Topping secured the Men’s Junior 15 Eight title.
Finally, the Men’s J18 4X+ category was won by Shane O’Donnell, Andries Ferreira, Harley Sheppard, William Graham, and cox Ollie Powell, rounding off a highly successful day for ERBC.
Next up is Sligo Head of the River this Saturday for the Year 9 and 10 rowers while the seniors continue their training at home for Erne Eights Head of the River which takes place on Saturday, 7th March.
