Enniskillen Royal Grammar School is a new academically selective voluntary grammar school that opened on 1 September 2016.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School is co-educational and non-denominational.
The inaugural ERGS Junior Golf Day took place on 9th June with Castle Hume kindly hosting this event. 20 budding Rory McIlroy's headed out to play on a wet but playable course with bags full of golf balls and no doubt some what lighter on their return! Despite the forecast and early rain before the first tee time at 10am, the conditions improved throughout the day.
As is the nature of the game there were some great shots that will last long in the memory and some not so good ones that are quickly forgotten. The cry of FORE echoed regularly around the course. The values of camaraderie, respect and resilience were all on display to varying degrees. For most this was their first experience of playing 18 holes on a course with an average round time of 5 hours.
We hope to provide the Seniors (Yrs 11-14) with a similar opportunity once they are back in school in September. Once a playing panel has been established then selection can begin for representation to the Ulster Schools Golf Ireland events.
Perpetual trophies for both the Junior and Senior competitions have been sourced and will be presented at the start of next term to each winner in what is hoped will become annual events.
If you are interested in taking up the game please speak to the Junior Convenors at the local clubs of Castle Hume GC, Enniskillen GC, Clogher Valley GC or indeed clubs further afield. All clubs are keen to promote Junior Golf opportunities.

Class of 2024
Subjects studied at A’ Level: Maths, Geography and Health & Social Care
After leaving school in 2024, I started studying Primary Education at Stranmillis University College in Belfast. I have really enjoyed my time there so far and have tried to make the most of everything university has to offer. One of the highlights has been taking part in the university pantomimes, and I was recently selected as a member of the Students’ Union Executive for the 2026/27 academic year. I am looking forward to representing students and contributing to university life, something I feel my time at school prepared me well for through the leadership opportunities and encouragement I received.
As part of my degree, my first two teaching placements have been in Belfast schools, which have provided me with valuable classroom experience. I have another two years of university ahead of me and hope to complete my remaining placements in Fermanagh, gaining experience closer to home.
Outside of university, I work part-time, care for my mum and play rugby for Clogher Valley Ladies. Balancing these commitments alongside my studies can be challenging at times, but they have helped me develop resilience, organisation and the ability to work well with others.
Looking back, my time at school played a big part in getting me to where I am now. The support and encouragement I received from teachers gave me the confidence to pursue a career in teaching and to get involved in university life. Looking back, the positive relationships I had with my teachers throughout school played a big part in my decision to study Primary Education. They showed me the difference a good teacher can make, and that’s something I hope to bring into my own career.
School also provided me with so many opportunities outside the classroom, from rugby tours to enrichment afternoons that allowed me to gain valuable work experience and explore different career paths. Those experiences helped me realise that teaching was the path I wanted to follow.
I am grateful for everything my time at ERGS gave me, from the friendships I made to the opportunities I was encouraged to take. I have really enjoyed my time at Stranmillis so far and look forward to seeing what the next two years will bring.
