A huge thank you to Michael and his team at Cavan Country Museum, who hosted our Yr13 Peace Studies pupils today. Peace Studies is an ongoing shared education link between ERGS and St Michael’s College. Each year a group of pupils from both schools come together to work on a project led by Catherine Scott of Enniskillen Castle Museum. This year’s focus is on 1917 and pupils are currently engaged in investigating local people and their involvement in the history of the time.
Cavan County Museum is a great place to visit if you want to understand the decision making of thousands of irish people around the time of WWI. The exhibition not only displays an impressive array of artefacts from the time, but the outside exhibition space tells the story and explains the decision making of many to either head for the trenches or ultimately take part in the Easter Rising.
A great venue and well worth the visit.
