6 crews from ERBC went to Portadown Boat Club at the weekend to take part in their first Head race in almost 2 years. They took the top 2 positions in the tough 16 Km race which started at Bannfoot and ended at PBC Boathouse. ERBC had 4 mixed crews entered for the first time and it was the crew of Tim Murphy, Niamh Cassidy, Laura Turner and Tom Blake who were the overall winners in a fantastic time of 59.31.84.
In 2nd place it was the crew of Lewis Nixon, Chloe Thompson, Marcus Davis-Kunze and Aine McCaffrey in a time of 01.01.07.25.
There was also a WJ16 category win for the girls’ crew of Katie O’Hare, Eva Johnston, Victoria Breen, Caitlyn Ellison and Grace Ralph (cox)
It was great for the crews to gain some Head racing experience early in the season and next up for the rowers is Castleconnell Head of the River on 23rd October when the juniors will travel to Limerick to compete, some of them for the very first time. Many thanks to Mr Holland and Gerry Murphy who travelled to Portadown with the rowers.
