On Monday 20th November , the Senior Netball Squad travelled to South Lakes Leisure Centre to face Lagan college in their Shield match.
Despite a confident start, the girls quickly found themselves on the back foot. With very intense play in the first quarter, the team were finding it hard to break Lagan’s extremely tight defence. The Goal Defence for Lagan kept intercepting the ball and feeding it straight to her attacking players. This was very disheartening for our girls. In the next quarter however, the team were able to find pockets of space, and used these well to pass the ball into our attacking circle. Unfortunately, we could not turn these gains into points due to the extremely effective marking from the Lagan team.
The 3rd quarter continued in much the same vein. It was not until the last quarter that we finally managed to break through their tight defence with some excellent play from our midfield. This enabled the girls to slot in a few goals of their own. Sadly, it was not enough to win the match and the team faced their first loss of the season.
This is not the end as the girls are now in the Bowl competition – they await to hear who their opponent will be.
Thank-you to the girls for their excellent display of teamwork and sportsmanship today, it was very much appreciated and admired.
