The Sligo Head of the River took place last Saturday under very cold conditions
ERBC crews delivered a remarkable performance at the Sligo Head of the River, claiming three victories in Race 1 and five in Race 2 across the 3 km stretch of the Garavogue River. A lot of our Year 9 rowers who started to row in September had their first race on Saturday and they all rowed well. In the Men’s Junior 15 4X+, Josh Allen, Oliver Collins, George Elliott, Eli Irvine, and cox Hollie Sharpe secured the win with an impressive margin of 48.0 seconds over Carrick RC. The Women’s Junior 14 double was won by Sophia Latimer and Heidi Bogle, who narrowly edged out their teammates Martha McCreesh and Ellie McCauley. In the Women’s Junior 15 double, Maeve Rolston McAuliffe and Kaityln Read triumphed by 30.7 seconds ahead of Sligo RC, also outperforming two crews from Muckross RC.
Race 2 featured another strong showing from ERBC, with the club taking both first and second place in the fiercely contested Men’s Junior 15 doubles. Oliver Collins and George Elliott finished just ahead of Levi Thompson and Eli Irvine, leaving the crews from St Joseph’s, Sligo RC, and Athlone BC trailing behind. Josh Allen, Junior 15 was the fastest Junior sculler finishing in a fantastic time of 12.13 , this is a brilliant achievement for Josh.
The Women’s Junior 13 and 15 Octos had no other crews in their categories, they both had great races with the Junior 13 crew coxed by Finlay Bell finishing in a time of 14.46.5 and the Junior 15 crew coxed by Nicole Graham crossing the line in 12.21.6.
The Women’s Junior 14 4X+ crew of Sophia Latimer. Heidi Bogle, Myleene Leonard, Muireann Cassidy and Hollie Sharpe had a 35.6 sec win over Muckross RC. These results highlight ERBC’s dominance and depth across multiple junior categories at the event.
Next up for ERBC is Newry Head of the River this Saturday with crews across all age groups competing.
