On an overcast blustery but dry day the U15’s travelled up to play a strong Lisneal College side. The last time these boys played Cricket for the school was the summer of 2019 and with little practice since this was always going to be a stern test.
After winning the toss Lisneal elected to bat first. 3 of their batters were retired at 50 runs each demonstrating the strength of cricket in this area. O Mooney was ERGS stand out bowler taking 1 wicket for 11 runs off his first 3 over spell. He finished with figures of 2 for 38 off 6 overs with A Martin making a great catch at deep long on off Mooney’s final over. Lisneal set a rather challenging target of 208 for 2 off 20 overs.
ERGS lacking practice against a very talented side lacked the technique to counter the Lisneal bowling attack which only needed 6 overs to bowl ERGS out for a low score.
A one sided affair but credit to the boys who did their best & whilst the result was probably a forgone conclusion the experience of playing the game and keeping it alive in Co Fermanagh is a noble one.
