The first team up for the ERGS juniors was St Colombanus. They were a much bigger and stronger team and were a tough match to begin with. However, some excellent tackling from Lana Bothwell and Emily Stewart proved crucial. St Colombanus scored first with two excellent tries but the ERGS girls then came back with two of their own from Lucy Thompson and Casey Howe. The game became a match of end to end play with the final score of 4-4 a true reflection of the game for both teams.
The next match of the tournament was St Columbus. Having settled well into their stride the ERGS junior team dominated throughout the game. Excellent tackling from Nicola Allen and Sarah Mullan coupled with competent handling from the entire team culminated in a resounding 8-0 victory.
The third and final game was against Royal School Armagh who had proved themselves to be a strong and skilled team. They had been held to a draw by St Columbanus so victory would mean a group win. The match was nip and tuck the whole way with both teams showing some excellent handling skills and determined tackling. The ERGS juniors held on to win 3-1. The whole team played their part producing some excellent Rugby.
We now await the second blitz of the series in December.
