The Academy is an outreach platform open to all pupils from Year 8-14, it’s free, self-paced and currently has 70+ courses on offer.
Each course is aligned with curriculum, personal development or showcases pathways into university disciplines. Pupils are encouraged to jump from course to course, subject to subject, if they don’t like a course, that’s no problem, try a different one, there is no penalty for not completing, The essence of the Academy is to build curiosity and aspirations around future pathways for young people.
Last year UU welcomed 13,000 enrolments from NI schools. into the Academy. The academy allows pupils to explore subjects perhaps that they don’t study, it can also be used as curriculum enrichment, a popular one is “Prepping for Uni” for Year 13/14 and ‘Study Skills’ for Year 10-14, so that the pupils can track their revision.
Pupils receive an Ulster University Certificate for each course completed, alongside the recognition of ‘Ulster University Academy Scholar’ and their Blazer Recognition Pins. UU advise the pupils to add this for their CV or UCAS application etc.
