After a disappointing result last week , the U14 boys took to the pitch determined to make-up for last week’s mistakes. As the whistle blew for kick-off the ERGS side immediately put pressure on Regent retrieving the ball and putting the visit side on the back foot. Efficient rucking and close support play proved too intense the Regent pack and quick distribution by Paul McConkey (No.9) and Michael Bothwell (No. 10) meant the back line were able to threaten the Regent centres and wings. The first try of the game was delivered by second row William Coulson who was rewarded for his hard work supporting break through runners and was able to capitalise on a well delivered offload as he crashed over the line.
Centers Shay Owen and Quillan Irvine once again shone in terms of their pace and foot work frequently ‘dancing’ through and around the the opposition to tally 6 tries between them. Newly appointed pack leader and loose head prop Ethan Clarke also made his presence felt through is powerful crash ball route-one running, eventually smashing his way through several tackles to score under the posts. In total 8 tries and 5 conversions resulted in a convincing defeat of the opposition but with Armagh Royal this coming Saturday there is no time to become complacent.
