On Tuesday 3rd March our strings players had the wonderful opportunity of attending a Strings workshop hosted at Mount Lourdes Grammar School, led by Violinist Danny McCann-Williams of the Ulster Orchestra. The event was funded and supported by ‘Music in Fermanagh‘, through Mrs Evelyn Hassard to whom we are appreciatively grateful. Our pupils prepared a selection of music with their tutors Ms Sarah Bell and Ms Catherine Dunne in advance which helped in creating a Strings Orchestra for the day.
It was wonderful to have a full range of instruments with 1st and 2nd Violins, Violas, Cellos and Double-Basses and some piano accompaniments were added on the day by Mrs Bloomfield. In the afternoon, two of our Senior pupils, Yoly Brannigan and Solenn Beeson had masterclasses, sharing in a public lesson with Danny. This provided a real insight as to how they could further develop their playing, considering points of technique and musicianship, which was supportive for both upcoming high level Grade examinations and an A level recital. Danny gave some very helpful tips to help the girls improve their performances and this also provided a great opportunity for less experienced players to observe in more advanced music making.
Overall, our pupils had a most enjoyable and musical day at Mount Lourdes, and we thank Mrs Clarke (Head of Music, MLE), our Strings tutors and Music in Fermanagh for helping to make this such a successful event.
