Caroline Knowles, a Year 12 pupil has recently had the opportunity to participate and perform as part of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain’s (NYO) Inspire programme which aims to inspire teenage musicians and give them a sense of personal responsibility for giving world-class performances of orchestral music. The NYO seeks to collectively build the future of orchestral music and as such provides a platform for young classical musicians to develop their playing in an orchestral context.
The course which had been recommended by Caroline’s tutor from the EAWR Music Service, Mrs Dawn Liggett took place at the Notre Dame RC College in Liverpool from Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th February. During that time Caroline had the opportunity participate in sectional workshops and full Strings Orchestral performances of Contemporary pieces including ‘Momentum’ by Peter Hope. She also had opportunity for Creative Improvisation and Q & A sessions with members of the NYO. Caroline was also interviewed for a short film about the NYO and Inspire event.
Caroline is currently studying for her GCSEs which include Music. She is a member of the EAWR Senior Youth Orchestra and plays in both ensembles and orchestra at school. She is both a capable pianist and cellist and is currently completing her Grade 8 cello.
