The Department for Infrastructure (Roads & Rivers) has launched their Apprentice recruitment opportunity. This may be of interest to some Year 14 Leavers. Full details are available on the link below.

Closing dates for applications is 5th July.
Eligibility Criteria: At least 5 GCSEs (Grade C and above) including a minimum of Grade B in Maths, Grade C in English, Grade C in a Science subject (Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Double Award Science). Depending on number of applicants, shortlisting criteria may be applied, Grade B in a relevant Science subject and a minimum of Grade A in Maths.
Applicants need to have the qualifications by closing date (5th July) so it is not suitable for Year 12 students. In previous years most applicants are from those that have completed A levels but are looking for an alternative to university.
Successful applicants will study for a BTEC in Civil Engineering on a day release basis i.e. 4 days working with the Department with one day in college. It is a very good scheme with an attractive starting salary of £24,000. On completion of the Apprenticeship, opportunities exist for further study up to and including Degree level and ultimately to Professional Qualification level.
