Match Result:
1sts 1-2 Raphoe
2nds 0-1
U14 0-2
U13 0-1
The 1sts took Raphoe by surprise in the first half with some excellent play from the whole team and went 1-0 up 15 minutes into the game with an excellent goal setup by Hannah and scored by Lucy. During the second half a clearly rattled Raphoe started to come back into the game with some excellent forward play, getting an equaliser off a deflection from an ERGS defender. The match continued to go from end to end but with five minutes to go a second lucky deflection gave Raphoe their second goal. Emma also received quite a nasty injury from a rogue stick, which rattled the team a little, but they dug deep to try and get the equaliser but unfortunately to no avail. Although the final score did not go the teams way, the game was a marked improvement from the last years outing against the same team.
The seconds also rattled their opposition with several shots, one on one with the keeper, as time and again they were caught out by the speed of the ERGS mid-field and forward line. The game remained 0-0 at half time and with the score in the balance several players from the Raphoe 1sts came to bolster the opposition team. The pressure began to build and with five minutes remaining a well struck goal, none of the defence could do anything about, went in. The ERGS girls had a chance late on to make it a draw, but the Raphoe goal keeper did well and cleared.
Again it was a much improved performance and we were unlucky not to get the draw.
