Although the rowers from ERBC have been Staying at Home to Protect the NHS and Save Lives it didn’t stop them achieving amazing results in a Virtual Regatta over 3 days last weekend.
ERBC has an new Irish Record Holder after Sam Balcombe completed a half marathon (21,097m) for the 17/18 age category on Monday with a time of 1.22.16.7 beating the record set by Patrick Ahern from Blackrock Rowing Club on Saturday. As well as his erg sessions Sam completed 4 cycles over the 3 days.
Overall the rowers and coaches cycled and ran almost 3.5 million meters for the Club, the 2nd highest total from all the Irish Clubs who participated. In total 52 people took part.
J14 rower Niamh Cassidy was the fastest junior over 2K with a time of 7.43
Another J14 rower Olivia Jordan covered the most distance in her age group completing 71,725m on the erg, 29.33 on the bike and a 7.43 km run.
Zoe Elliott won the J16 category.
A very special mention for J16 Rower Tim Murphy who completed 50km on the erg on Saturday, the same on Sunday and a fantastic 52,151m on Monday. What an awesome achievement. Well done Tim.
Other rowers from the Club, Caitlin O’Hare, Maeve Donnelly, Kyle Abraham and Lewis Nixon all contributed approx 100 km each to the competition and many others doing more than 50km. It was marvellous to see so many of the members doing a mixture of Erg, Cycling and Rowing.
Well done to coaches Derek Holland, Barney Rox and Simon Crawford for playing their part too and leading by example. Derek is back in training for his Live 2K on 16th May to raise funds for Action Mental Health and RNLI. You can donate here to support the 2 charities.
