    Neptune and Commercial Regattas

By Sinead Magee | Latest News, Rowing Reports | Comments are Closed | 4 April, 2023 | 0
ERBC had a very successful weekend in Dublin with six crews competing in Neptune Regatta on Saturday and nine crews taking part in Commercial Regatta on Sunday. These were the first two regattas of the season and with the rowers just back from a week’s training camp in Banyoles, Spain it was great to see them reap the rewards of all their hard work.
On Saturday the MJ15 8+ crew Christian Timoney, Jamie Dunlop, Charlie Lynn, Jake Sembhi, Eoghan Campbell, Ethan Downey, Andrew Cuthbertson, Ryan Topping and cox Iain Fleming had a great win over Neptune RC in a straight final. There was also success for the MJ15 4x+ crew, Lorcan Sreenivasan, Austin Cassidy, Evan Donaghy, Luke Bailey and cox Ben Cameron, who had to go through three rounds before claiming the win.
The MJ16 4X+ crew Justin Smith, Joe Murphy, Hugo McChesney, William Bogle and cox Daniel Montgomery won their heat, Quarter Final, Semi Final before they were pipped at the finish line in the final.
The MJ18 8+ crew Jacob Halliday, John O’Kane, Thomas Murphy, Rory Keogh, Joshua Coalter, Hugo McChesney, Justin Smith, William Bogle and cox Iain Fleming crossed the finish line ahead of the crew from Blackrock College but were unfortunately disqualified for making contact with a buoy on the 1200m course.
At Commercial Regatta on Sunday there were five wins from the nine crews that competed.
The WJ14 8X+ Aimee Turner, Brooke Ewing, Ciara Sreenivasan, Eva Fowler, Charlotte, Bukowski, Amy Williamson, Penny Huddlestone, Aoibhin Campbell and cox Abbey Wilson had a win over Carlow by five lengths.
Isabella Wright, Zara Welsh, Erin Trimble, Grace Collins and Abbey Wilson beat the girls from Carrick RC to take the win for the WJ14 4X+
The WJ15 8X+ crew Milena Remedios, Mya Morris, Zara Lindsay, Annie Fowler, Amy Lipscomb, Sienna Howe, Isabella Wright, Abbie Mc Carthy – Magwood and cox Abbey Wilson overcame Newry RC to reach the final against the crew from St Michael’s. The race had to be rowed twice after St Michael’s broke an oar and the girls from ERBC were absolutely delighted to cross the line first after a great race.
MJ14 8X+ crew of Adam Bullock, Harry Welsh, Caelan Moore, James McAleer, Evan Clarke, Lewis Coalter, Felix Holland, Joel Crean and cox Iain Fleming raced against their teammates Jackson Elliott, Edward Dowa, Oliver Jennings , Paddy Huang, Reece Brady, Ryan Mongan, Lucas Boyle, Matthew Montgomery and Cox Cameron Bell and took the win. These young rowers were racing in their first regatta and they all did exceptionally well and gained lots of invaluable experience in side by side racing which they will take with them through the rest of the season.
The WJ15 4x+ crew of Cillian Donaghy, Joshua Ihnat, Harley Sheppard, Bruno Maguire Favro and cox Iain Fleming won their race against Waterford RC by five Lengths.
