GCSE GEOGRAPHY FIELD TRIP — DAY 1 AT THE SILLEES

A fantastic first day for our GCSE Geographers at the Sillees River. The sun made an appearance but the river was quite full, which meant lots of wet wellies and plenty of laughs along the way.

Pupils showed excellent behaviour throughout, working safely and sensibly as they collected data for next year’s Unit 3 Fieldwork examination. They measured width, depth, velocity and bedload size and shape, seeing their classroom learning come to life.

A brilliant start to our investigation - great teamwork, great attitudes and great fun. Early to bed tonight after all that fresh air!

Enniskillen RBC had a successful trip to the Athlone regatta with eighteen gold medals. This performance is good preparation for the junior rowers whose next event will be the Junior Irish Championships. Athlone is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Ireland, based on the River Shannon and it hosts a busy regatta with clubs participating from all over the island.

The day got off to a good start with early wins for both J14 girls quads crewed by Sophia Latimer, Muireann Cassidy, Holly McCabe, Sophie Madill, cox Hollie Sharpe and Maya Kettyle, Myleene Loenard, Zarka Kupkova, Heidi Bogle and cox Isobel Guida.

Shortly afterwards the boys double of Oliver Collins and Benjamin Johnston completed a tight finish over MCB, and Josh Allen overcame a spirited fightback from St Josheph’s to win the J15 sculls event. The good conditions at the start began to get tougher with stronger winds which made rowing more challenging but the young crews showed their experience of Erne training by then winning the J15 quad event crewed by Catherine Starret, Michaela Ihnat, Sophie Collum, Sophie Madill, cox Freya McNeary with a two length win over St Michaels.

With the windy conditions, J13 sculling was postponed but the J13 quads continued with wins for the Enniskillen crews of Elizabeth Elliott, Amy Madill, Connie Allen, Lilly Gallagher, cox Isabel Guida, and Emily Cadden, Clara Curren, Kacey Johnston, Annabel Elliott, cox Hollie Sharpe.

The boys J15 octo of Josh Allen, Eli Irvine , George Elliott, Oliver Collins, Levi Thompson, Jack Cuthbertson, Ethan Vance, Finlay Bell, cox Freya McNeary completed a one length win over Galway, in a strong field of six. There was great success in the girls J14 double with all three entries winning their events. Crews were Holly McCabe and Heidi Bogle, Sophia Latimer and Sophie Madill, and Maya Kettyle and Mylene Leonard. In the last race of the morning session the J15 Octo crew of Kaitlyn Read, Maeve Ralston-McAuliffe, Beth Bradley, Holly Shaw, Catherine Starret, Michaela Ihnat, Sophie Collum, Chloe McVitty, cox Leah Topping overcame strong challanges from St Michaels and Castleconnel to take the honours.

The afternoon session started with a win for the girls J14 octo of Maya Kettyle, Sophia Latimer, Holly McCabe, Sophie Madill, Heidi Bogle, Muireann Cassidy, Myleene Loenard, Zarka Kupkova, cox Hollie Sharpe, followed by Kaitlyn Read and Maeve Ralston-McAuliffe in the J15 double event after a tussle with St Michaels, closely followed by a great win for the young crew of Flynn Jennings, Charles Armstrong, Harry Patton, Eoghlan O’shea-Green, and cox Hollie Sharpe in the J13 quad event. In the J14 double race, Tommy Chen and Dara Mangan overcame crews from Athlone and St Michaels to record a fine win, and Muireann Cassidy won a split decision ruling to be awarded the win over Sligo.

In the final race of the day, the boys J15 eight of George Elliott, Josh Allen, Oliver Collins, Eli Irvine, Levi Thompson, Benjamin Johnston, Ethan Vance, Finlay Bell and cox Freya McNeary recorded an excellent two length win over old rivals St Joseph’s in a strong field. Their win ensured Enniskillen would be awarded the coveted Steve Doran Trophy for the most successful club at the regatta.

Next weekend the two senior eights will travel to Cork Regatta, and then the club competes in the Junior Irish Championships in Lough Rinn, Henley Regatta and the Senior Irish Championships at the National Rowing Centre, Co Cork to finish off the season.

Huge Congratulations to Our Talented Pupils Representing Fermanagh! ⚽

We are delighted to celebrate the achievement of a number of our pupils who have been selected to represent Fermanagh at this year’s prestigious Super Cup NI.

Selected for the Junior Squad are Olly McLaren (Year 9), Henry McNiece (Year 9) and Noah Welsh (Year 10), while Ethan Boylan-Clarke (Year 11) and Ben Cathcart (Year 12) have been selected for the Premier Squad.

Selection for the Premier and Junior squads is a tremendous achievement and reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment these young footballers have shown throughout the season. They will have the opportunity to compete against some of the best youth teams from across the UK, Ireland and beyond in one of the most respected youth football tournaments in the world.

The SuperCup NI gets underway next month, running from Sunday 26 July to Friday 31 July, with Fermanagh’s Premier and Junior teams facing a series of challenging fixtures throughout the tournament. Matches will take place across a number of venues in the North West, providing players with a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents on a major stage while representing their county with pride.

We wish all of our pupils involved the very best of luck and encourage members of our school community to come along, support the teams and enjoy what promises to be an exciting week of football.

Good luck to all involved – we are incredibly proud of your achievement and look forward to following your progress throughout the tournament. 👏⚽
