ERGS Hockey Vs Royal and Prior Raphoe

    By Enniskillen Royal | Latest News | Comments are Closed | 8 November, 2021 | 0

The junior and senior hockey teams travelled to play Royal and Prior Raphoe on Saturday 3rd November.

On Saturday, a depleted first XI travelled to Raphoe to take on Royal and Prior. The Donegal side started the brighter and it was no surprise when they took an early lead. Enniskillen fought hard and were rewarded when, after some fine work from Anna Wilson, the ball was played into the circle for Kayla Noble to apply the finish. The second half was a one-sided affair with Royal and Prior running out convincing winners however the girls are to be congratulated on their effort and commitment. A special mention to first team debutants, Victoria Murray, Ella McFarland, Kayla Noble and Natasha McKeown.
The seconds fared a lot better as they dominated their game from start to finish. Leah Irwin controlled midfield while the right-wing partnership of Jane Black and Faith Gould was a constant threat. Sophie Moore is a natural goal scorer who has worked hard on her game, and she provided a clinical finish to put Enniskillen ahead after terrific work on the left by Evie Morrison. Most of the game was played in the Raphoe half however despite creating many scoring opportunities, found the home keeper in tremendous form. The girls continue their Western league campaign with games against Strabane Academy this Saturday at Fivemiletown.
The U14s were much changed due to a clash with a rowing event but this did give several girls their first match experience playing for ERGS.
The experience of the Raphoe team showed through in particular their centre forward. The team held firm for most of the first half but as legs tired the goals came. Final score 4-0 Raphoe.
The U13s again had many first time match players. Unfortunately many of the rowing girls defensive players which left several of the team playing in new positions. ERGS came close to scoring on many occasions but unfortunately it was Raphoe who came away with the win 2-0.
Next week sees the teams have their first home fixture at Fivemiletown HS pitches against Strabane Academy.
