As a last pre shield warm-up the Medallion boys were invited to Summerhill College, Sligo to play a festive friendly this afternoon. Playing in windy conditions and on a state of the art 4G pitch the boys had to deal with several new challenges along with a well drilled and ‘solid’ Summerhill side. The hosts opened the scoring to win the first half 12-0, but it was the grit and determination of the ERGS boys that saw them fight back in the second, learning on their feet and adapting their play to cope with both the physicality of their opponents and weather conditions. With Captain Alfie Lucy opening the ERGS scoring followed by Matthew Mannix in the dying minutes, the final score ended a 29-10 victory to the hosts. A superb game and a massive thank you to the boys and coaches at Summerhill for the game and hospitality and hopefully a new fixture for future seasons.
With a detour to Bundoran Cinema on the way home, the boys have had a good day out and are now very much looking forward to their 1st Shield game at Home against Limavady on the 6th January.
